Great Food at Mt Evelyn

Penny Olive’s Sourdough Café, located right alongside the Warburton Rail Trail, is a foodie’s haven. Penny was trained to make sourdough bread the old-fashioned way, by hand and with no chemicals. Penny’s bread is deliciously fresh, satisfying and warms your belly and heart alike. It is impossible to resist the aroma of fresh bread wafting out the front door.

Penny is passionate about producing the highest quality, local and ethically sourced produce for her café and as well as her sumptuous bread offers pizza, croissants, tarts, muffins, soup and even bicycle parking out the front.

Another essential stop in Mount Evelyn is Organic Empire. Founder and nutritionist, Angela Gioffre established this organic food store, home delivery business, food school and organic farm out of her passion to create a better world for her children. Angela is committed to connecting communities with local farmers, artisans and food producers in order to provide fresh produce that is nutrient dense and superior tasting.

Angela’s food store has an amazing array of organic produce including pineapples, watermelon, celery, kale, nectarines and plums just to name a few and also stocks dry goods, skin care and books. Angela makes a great effort to stock old-school varieties of produce that are non-hybrids and not genetically modified. Her food school aims to change people’s habits and give them old skills in preparing and growing good basic food.

Angela knows most of her customers by name and even has customers who regularly drive four hours to the Organic Empire store to select fresh organic produce. Angela believes the key to her business is not money, but people.
