The Independent is causing quite a stir for its modern dining room style and excellent Argentinian inspired menu.
Located in the main street of Gembrook the restaurant is within a former hardware store and much of the art deco remnants of the building have been retained to add a quirky edge to the dining room.
The menu is designed around share plates where diners can enjoy a sample of the chef’s skills. The contemporary menu features generous portions and a favourite is the smoked carrots, a pretty scallop entrée and the Humita which is a pumpkin and sweet corn stew. There is always a great selection of specials and a well designed beverage menu. Make sure you allow plenty of time to slow down and enjoy a long lunch as you will want to try many dishes.
