The Storehouse – Mount Evelyn
Since opening in September 2014, The Storehouse has created a hip, wholesome and upbeat space chock-full of community spirit, amiable staff and as much organic edibles as possible. This well-presented part coffee bar-small cafe and part bulk wholefoods and sustainable living products store prides itself on sourcing as much local produce as possible, from Organic Empire down the road to Fruition Bakery at Healesville and Blackburn-based newcomer Capulus Roastery, which blends their specialty artisan-roasted coffee. Indeed, die-hard coffee connoisseurs and natural food hedonists are like bees to a honeypot here, which is also reflected in The Storehouse recently being named by Beanhunter Blog as one of Melbourne’s Top Cafes for 2014, specifically ranking 35 out of 99. With most of the cafe menu items created at The Storehouse, including their extensive dairy-free smoothie selection, chia puddings, old mate eggs and housemade dukkha, they also serve locally made Stone Age Fusion’s zesty tasting paleo, gluten-free and vegan pizzas. In addition to the food, they stock a small selection of locally created artisan wares, which are mostly family and friends’ works, including occasional sculptures by chainsaw carver Brandon Kroon. Closed Sundays.
