Shelves crammed with garden books, cuttings that jostle for space on the kitchen windowsill, and a colourful collection of gumboots by the back door – the telltale signs of a true gardener are everywhere at La Muxlow’s Kangaroo Ground home.

Growing up in South Africa, the landscape designer quickly developed a strong kinship with nature. “Gardens were a huge part of my childhood,” she recalls. “I remember playing with the ‘faeries’ under the hydrangeas or climbing the pines, hunting for nuts. I loved that feeling of the trees above me and all the wildlife they attract. We often found chameleons and nesting owls in the garden.”
